Equine

Wellness Exams

Wellness exams are an opportunity to evaluate your equine patient’s health and maximize the fullness of that life, both in terms of what your patient can do and for how long.

During these exams, we’ll discuss vaccination schedules, diet, and lifestyle choices for your equine patients.

Vaccinations

We have different vaccination needs based on species-specific diseases. Our veterinarians will work with you to set up a comprehensive, personalized vaccination schedule to protect your horse.

Parasite Prevention

Parasites, and the diseases they carry, can be prevented with proper medication and vaccination. Fleas and ticks are not only a source of irritation to you and your patient, but they can also harbor disease and negatively affect your horse’s health. Heartworms are a dangerous parasites that can damage the heart muscle, and can be fatal.

Surgery

Our team is highly skilled and experienced in performing a wide variety of surgeries using modern techniques and cutting-edge equipment and always adhering to the strictest standards of safety and care. We provide surgical care in a clean and safe environment. Most importantly, our veterinary team can closely track each animal’s vital condition during surgery. Your patient is in safe hands at North Fork Veterinary Clinic!

Dentistry

Routine dental floating is a critical element in maintaining a healthy horse. Removing sharp points from a horse’s teeth ensures that they can chew correctly and alleviates oral ulceration.

Sharp points and hooks can create painful areas which will cause a horse to resist the bit or begin to head toss. An oral examination can be performed to evaluate the need for dental floating in your horse.

Coggins Testing & Health Certificates
We offer Coggins testing. A Coggins test is a blood test that samples a horse for the presence of equine infectious anemia (EIA), a virus similar to the human HIV virus. It is transmitted mostly by large biting flies, such as horse or deer flies. A horse that tests positive to EIA might be actively infected or be a carrier. In either case, the horse must be strictly quarantined for life away from other horses or be euthanized.

We also offer health certificates required by law. The health certificate states that the horse was free of infectious disease at the time of the examination. Health Certificates are usually good for 30 days after they are issued.

Bovine

Wellness Exams

Wellness exams are an opportunity to evaluate your cows health and maximize the fullness of that life.

During these exams, we’ll discuss vaccination schedules, diet, and lifestyle choices for your bovine patients.

Pregnancy Diagnosis

We use several methods available to determine if a cow or heifer is pregnant. We can determine if a cow is pregnant by performing rectal palpation, transrectal ultrasound, and milk progesterone.

Parasites, and the diseases they carry, can be prevented with proper medication and vaccination. Fleas and ticks are not only a source of irritation to you and your patient, but they can also harbor disease and negatively affect your bovine’s health. Development Herd Health Protocols
We develop programs in cooperation with producers to strive to maximize health and production while decreasing the incidence of a variety of economically important diseases.

Development of herd health protocol recognizes the interaction between the animal and its ability to resist disease, a variety of infectious agents, and the environment. Each cow-calf operation is different and, therefore, has unique considerations to achieve herd health.
